Lower Hudson Valley Winner - 1st Place!

Congratulations to Mr. Byrne, Ms Liveris and the Teams!

The New Rochelle High School Science Olympiad team captured its third championship in four years at the Lower Hudson Valley Regional Science Olympiad tournament that was held on Feb. 13 at Byram Hills High School. New Rochelle finished first out of 33 teams, and now advances to the New York State Championships that will be held on March 19-20 at West Point.

New Rochelle again entered three teams in the competition, extending its record of being the only school in the Lower Hudson Valley region to field three full teams. New Rochelle's A team finished in the top five in 10 of the 16 events in which it competed, including four first place finishes. The battle for the regional championship was extremely close. A mere 12 points separated the top four teams. New Rochelle edged John Jay High School for first by five points (457-452). Ardsley High School finished third and host Byram Hills High School took fourth. Scarsdale High School rounded out the top five. Yonkers High School, which appeared in the tournament for the first time, was named the top "new" school in the tournament.

The Science Olympiad team meets on a weekly basis to practice skills required for the tournament.  It's a great way to bring science to life, to emphasize the problem-solving aspects of science, and to develop cooperative-learning strategies.  Successful participation in the 2010 Science Olympiad tournament is the ultimate goal of our team.

Please join us on Tuesdays, after school, in Room 1113.
