The Biome Project 

 

 1. Print out the world map and use a key to color in the biomes in this project.  You may select your own     color code, but make sure to include a key.

 2. Place a star showing where you live.

 3. Based on the photos, try to name each of the eight biomes.  Check your answers as you complete the project.

 4. You  may start the treasure hunt with any one of the biomes.  Note that each biome is numbered and the corresponding questions will refer to that number.

 5. Go to http://environment.nationalgeographic.com/environment/habitats/quiz-habitat.html and take the Habitat Quiz.  How did you do?

 6. Select one of the following reading selections.

Answer the following questions:

  1. What is the source and who is the author of the article?
  2. What is the author's purpose in writing this article.
  3. Select three words that you or your classmates may not know.  Underline them and define them.
  4. List four or five things you learned from this reading.

 7. Select one of the biomes and select one of the following options:

  • Make a travel brochure to attract tourists to your biome.  (see the example in class)

  • Select an indigenous animal to your biome and create a postcard featuring it. (see example in class)

  • Create a PowerPoint presentation featuring your biome.

  • Make a 3D model depicting your biome.

  • Create a Jeopardy Game using the characteristics of the biome as clues.

       Regardless of your selection, you must include at a minimum the following:

  • general climate conditions
  • indigenous flora and fauna
  • geographic location(s)
  • a minimum of three factoids
