Following are some suggestions for
extra credit:
 |
Question
of the Week - a new question is offered each week and it
is certainly worth trying. Write down your answer and its
source. |
 |
Laboratory
Write-Ups may include extra credit problems or question.
These points will be added to your laboratory grade. |
 |
Watch
Television - (that sounds too good to be true - read on!)
There are many excellent science programs on the Discovery Channel,
the Learning Channel, Channel 13,etc. Scan TV schedules and look
for biology related programs and have it approved by me first.
(In some cases, I may tell the class about one.) After viewing, write
a report that includes the title of the program, the name of
the series, the date it aired, a concise synopsis
of the basic content of the program, and 10 facts you learned
by watching this program. |
 |
Take a Trip
- We will make several trips to Sound Shore Hospital and the Bronx Zoo
this year. There are, however, some wonderful museums in our
area that are well worth a visit. I have worksheets for trips to
the Museum of Natural History, the NY
Botanical Gardens and Bear Mountain State Park. Why not
spend a day with your parents and learn more about biology??? |
 |
Newsworthy
Science - Read science articles in the NY Times, Discover
Magazine, National Geographic, Natural History, etc.
Write the article up using the Newsworthy Science format in your Survival
Guide. |
 |
Draw Cartoons -
Now that Gary Larson has retired, we need a replacement. Of
course, they must be about biology principles. If you find a
cartoon with a biological theme, explain it and donate it to our Cartoon
Corner. |
 |
Write a
Biological Song, rap, poem or limerick about the current topic we
are studying. (See the Survival Guide for examples.) |
 | Submit
a Biological Trivia that is "published" on our site. |
 | Complete the Scavenger
Hunt for the Zoo. |
 | Do the Environmental
Scavenger Hunt. |
|
|

Question of the Week
|
|
Please note:
nothing will make up
for not attending extra help sessions and trying your hardest!
Except where notes,
extra credit points will be added to a test or project grade.
Be aware that there is
a ceiling on the amount of extra credit points you can accumulate in a
marking period.
If you are a computer
whiz, you can get extra credit for helping with our publications!
