Part I

  1. Go to: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/search/browse?brwse=cond_cat
  2. Select a disease that you would like to know more about.
  3. After selecting a disease, research the following:
    • What are the characteristics (symptoms) of the disease?
    • How is it diagnosed?
    • Recognized treatments
    • Possible cures
    • General prognosis
  4. Some recommended sites include:

    Part II

    1. Go back to clinicaltrials.gov and find a clinical trial for your disease.
    2. Once you have selected a trial, search for the following questions:
      • What is the purpose of the study?
      • Where is it being held
      • Briefly describe the study.
      • What are the eligibility requirements?
      • What are the exclusion factors?
      • What are the responsibilities of participants in this study?
      • What are the risks?
      • What costs, if any, are involved?
      • What phase of clinical trial is it?

     

    Part III

    Select one of the following options.

    1. Write a letter to the researchers conducting this trial requesting that you be included in the trial. Make sure to present your motives, condition, and questions.
    2. Make a poster to advertise for subjects for this clinical trial.
    3. Write a script for an interview (Letterman, Oprah, etc) with a researcher or a patient in the trial.
    4. Write a letter as a researcher seeking funds for a clinical drug trial.
    5. You’ve been awarded the Nobel Prize for your work! Write your acceptance speech.
    6. Create a radio or television ad for this clinical trial.

      • Criteria for inclusion
      • Risks
      • Incentives (if any)
